• In 2013, Curt Richardson, a man with a passion to build legacy brands that make innovative, quality products, founded Old Elk. Rather than launching with a standard ready-to-sell mashbill, we contacted Greg Metze to create something unique. Something we could call our own. And thus, Old Elk’s signature High Malt Blended Straight Bourbon.

    Old Elk is now available in all 50 states. And all these years later, we continue to be driven by soul, innovation, quality, and above all, craft.

  • We were inspired by the proud, yet rare, presence of Colorado’s mountain dwelling elk. “Quiet on purpose” rang true to our way of creating whiskey and thriving in our own way.

  • Our vision is to make the highest quality product at the same scale as large companies, with the heart and soul only a small company could attain. Instead of proofing in a single day, we use a Slow Cut® Proofing Process, adding small increments of water over weeks to keep our liquid cool and to maintain the delicate flavors our team works so hard to produce.


    It’s in our nature to constantly innovate and do things differently. From our chosen home far from the Kentucky hills, to harnessing notoriously tough mashbills and prioritizing profile and quality over efficiency—you won’t find another team in the industry this committed to crafting world class whiskey.

  • No – it is contract distilled. Rather than purchase an existing, aged whiskey ‘off the shelf,’ we instead leveraged an existing distilling facility and their equipment to bring to life our own custom mashbill created by Master Distiller Greg Metze.

  • The majority of our product is contract distilled in Indiana with our custom mashbill.

  • While we don’t offer public tours of our space, we welcome you to visit The Reserve, our tasting room in Fort Collins to experience all things Old Elk.

  • Our products are available in all 50 states at a range of stores, bars, and restaurants. Check out our store locator to find Old Elk near you, or buy online through our Bottle Shop. Not seeing Old Elk at your local store? Request that they bring it in for you!

  • Old Elk has a range of products available in our lineup. Products from our Core Lineup and Master’s Blend Series are more readily available, while Specialty products (Cask Finish Series and Limited Time) tend to be scarcer, but we promise that they’re worth the hunt!
